Galileo Másters

2020

Galileo Master Galicia Award for Contact-Drone, a project developed by the spinoff Raytrack of the COM group researchers Yolanda Rodríguez Vaqueiro and Borja González Valdés and in which Antonio Pino is also an advisor.

The project consists of the design of a payload that allows an unmanned aerial vehicle to carry out contact inspection tasks in large structures with a disruptive technology that can revolutionize the sector of industrial inspection of large structures since it avoids risks during inspections and improves economic efficiency.

2019

The CX-Geodron project was awarded one of the top prizes of the Galileo Masters 2019, to which more than 300 projects were submitted across Europe. The CX-Geodron project has been developed within the spinoff of the COM Raytrack group of the COM group researchers Yolanda Rodríguez Vaqueiro and Borja González Valdés and in which Antonio Pino is also an advisor. The idea proposes to develop the UAS payload in the field of UHF and SHF bands with radar equipment and GPR-SAR techniques to complement LiDAR laser technologies and go further with underground detection applications.

World record

2009
The COM group broke the world record in electromagnetic simulation this year by solving 500 million unknowns with the Finis Terrae supercomputer. The technology developed by researcher Fernando Obelleiro and his team, in collaboration with Professor José Manuel Taboada and Cesga, achieved this milestone that allows the resolution of electromagnetic problems in the design of large structures equipped with radio systems such as ships, airplanes or land vehicles. For this reason, it received two international awards, the PRACE Award 2009, granted by the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, a European Union body that regulates and finances the development of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe; and the Intel Itanium Solutions Alliance Innovation Award 2009, in the Computationally Intensive Applications category, awarded by the Itanium Solutions Alliance, a body formed by the most important companies in the computing sector such as Intel, HP, Microsoft, Novell or Red Hat.
