Grupo de Antenas, Radar y Comunicaciones Ópticas

We are a leading research group in the area of electromagnetism. Our scope covers antenna design and measurement, computational electromagnetism, EMC, radar, millimiter waves applications, electro-optics and quantum information technology.

EMC

Electromagnetics and Radar Group (SC7-B Team) counts with more than 15 years of experience in the simulation and characterization of the electromagnetic behavior of arbitrarily complex structures, as well as the design and verification of radiating systems and in measurement systems and radar processing. Throughout these years, and thanks to the financial support given by institutions and companies, SC7-B Team has been able to acquire knowhow, the infrastructures and tools necessary to approach numerous activities within the framework of the electromagnetism and radar. These activities include the design, development and experimental characterization of communications systems antennas of diverse nature operating in different frequency bands, their simulation by means of software tools developed by the own team, until the obtaining of  target radar images in the sea.

The Team contributions in the scope of High Performance Computing (HPC) applied to electromagnetism have been remarkable, enjoying in this line of a recognized prestige and a world-wide level leadership position. Not in vain nowadays SC7-B Team holds the world computer electromagnetism record, thanks to solve, in August 2010, an 1000 million unknowns electromagnetic problem. This work enjoyed much recognition and in fact it was awarded with two important international prizes:

  • Praze Award'09 International Supercomputing Conference ISC'2009.
  • Itanium Innovation Awards 2009, Computational Intensive Applications category of the Itanium Solution Alliance de Intel..

SC7-B Team has used its own tools to realise the electromagnetic configuration integral design (including radiating systems design, EMC, EMI, and EMR design, calculation of levels and dangerous zones of electromagnetic exhibition for the crew and rest of electronic systems) in the constructed ships of the Spanish Navy during the 10 years last at the shipyard of NAVANTIA company. Similar studies have been carried out in already existing units of the Navy, some of which are mentioned next.
